Microsoft announced in a news release that it will stop supporting the standalone Cortana app in Windows later this year.

In a world where productive artificial intelligence tools are entering all software, including Windows, it seems that there is no place left for Cortana; Because Microsoft says that it will stop supporting this personal assistant as an independent application later this year.

Microsoft has announced on one of the support pages of its website that support for the standalone Cortana app on Windows will stop at the end of this year. Since the company unveiled CoPilot Windows at its recent Build conference, this decision no longer seems so strange.

Kopilot is considered as an assistant with artificial intelligence technologies that use this technology to help you in doing various things. This tool lives in the Windows taskbar and can access different apps to summarize content for you if needed, rewrite texts, answer your questions, and even change operating system settings.

What was the history of Cortana in Windows?

Microsoft first brought Cortana to Windows 10 in 2015, allowing you to access a variety of features from this personal assistant, including setting reminders, opening apps, and asking questions. However, over the years, the company has gradually removed Cortana from the Windows user experience.

With the release of Windows 11, this personal assistant was removed from the operating system. Also, Microsoft discontinued the Android and iOS apps of this program in 2020. It’s not clear when exactly this personal assistant will be removed from Windows, but it’s clear that the people of Redmond are focusing on artificial intelligence tools, including Bing Chat and Copilot.

With the departure of Cortana from the Microsoft operating system, this program will continue to live in Outlook Mobile, Microsoft Teams Mobile, Teams Display, and Teams Rooms.
