OpenAI CEO: Artificial intelligence will definitely destroy many jobs
In a new interview, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman criticized the optimistic outlook of AI industry players for the technology, saying that AI will definitely destroy many jobs.
OpenAI CEO: Artificial intelligence will definitely destroy many jobs
Altman told The Atlantic:
“A lot of people working on artificial intelligence pretend that this technology is just going to be good, it’s just going to be a supplement, it’s not going to replace anyone. “Certainly, many jobs will be destroyed.”
Altman about the future of artificial intelligence
Although what the CEO of OpenAI said will probably be uncomfortable for many people, he doesn’t seem too stressed about it. Altman says that overall, a world with artificial intelligence will be better, though he apparently isn’t entirely sure what that world will look like.
He went on to express excitement about the prospect of AI teachers, which he believes will provide “better educational resources for today’s best, richest, and brightest kids.” However, he also noted that people always prefer to be taught by humans.
None of the reports from this interview come as a surprise, since a few months after ChatGPT’s chatbot went public last fall, people were not only worried about being replaced by AI but also lost their jobs over it.
A few months ago, the recruitment firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas estimated that artificial intelligence had put almost 4,000 people out of a job in the US, and in March, Goldman Sachs predicted that 300 million jobs could be lost due to the technology. Due to these concerns, Meta’s global policy director recently said in an interview that the artificial intelligence giant can no longer be returned to the magic lamp.
