AMD unveiled its first laptop processor with 3D V-Cache technology
The first AMD laptop processor with 3D V-Cache technology was introduced. This processor, called Ryzen 9 7945X3D, uses more cache memory thanks to the 3D V-Cache technology. This technology was added to desktop processors last year, and now AMD’s first laptop processor with this technology has arrived.
The Ryzen 9 7945X3D processor is equipped with an additional 64 MB of L3 cache for a total of 144 MB of L3 cache. This technology also reduces the possibility of cache memory loss.
AMD laptop processor specs with 3D V-Cache
AMD’s new processor is actually a version of the standard Ryzen 9 7945HX processor with 16 processing cores. Of course, it should be mentioned that the Ryzen 9 7945X3D itself is a laptop version of the Ryzen 9 7950X3D desktop processor.
3D V-Cache technology is placed on each of the CPU chips, so 8 cores have access to additional cache memory, while 8 cores are deprived of this. AMD’s chipset software is responsible for engaging the correct core for the user’s intended tasks.
Thanks to the 3D V-Cache technology, AMD’s new processor consumes less energy and is also more efficient. According to AMD, the new processor offers higher performance with the same thermal design power (TDP) as the 7945HX processor. For example, with a thermal design power of 45 watts, AMD’s new processor is up to 23% faster than the 7945HX in games. In the thermal design power of 70 watts, this difference reaches 11%.
Currently, only one laptop is coming with AMD’s new processor: the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17. Of course, there is a possibility that more laptops will be launched with this processor in the future.
We still don’t know what the new version of the Strix Scar 17 laptop will cost, but considering the price of the current version, it will probably cost upwards of $3,300. So only certain people will get access to the new Ryzen 9 7945HX3D processor.
