The Russian government has canceled the fines it had planned for Telegram. What is the matter?

Telegram, while stating that it has no assets, offices, or employees in Russia, announced that the Russian government had canceled its fines for no apparent reason.

Pavel Dorf, the founder and CEO of Telegram, left this country in 2014 after he conflicted with the Russian government and moved Telegram’s official offices to the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.

Russian courts appear to have overturned fines against companies including Google, Meta, TikTok, and Telegram for not having access to seized assets, Reuters reported.

The spokesperson of Telegram announced that because they are not officially active in Russia, they cannot know the details of the case in question.

Russia has always had a dispute with companies such as Telegram because of the way users’ information is stored.
