A new report has revealed new information about the iPhone 17 series, which will include design changes and a slim model.

Apple has planned big changes for its next year’s flagship phone, the iPhone 17 series. The company is apparently replacing the Plus model with a “Slim” model, and overall it will offer a newer look with a smaller Dynamic Island and other improvements to the selfie camera.

Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Po said in a note seen by 9to5Mac that Apple will introduce its iPhone family in 2025 in four models with the following sizes:

  • iPhone 17 with a 6.1-inch display
  • iPhone 17 Slim with a 6.6-inch screen
  • iPhone 17 Pro with a 6.3-inch display
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max with a 6.9-inch display

Possible changes in the design of the iPhone 17 series

In terms of design, it has been said that the iPhone 17, 17 Slim, and 17 Pro will all have an aluminum frame, which will be more advanced. But the iPhone 17 Pro Max uses a titanium frame. The Pro Max model will also have a smaller Dynamic Island, while the other models retain the current Dynamic Island design.

According to Jeff Poe, the smaller Dynamic Island in the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be made possible by the use of Metalens’ new proximity sensor technology. This technology is likely to help Apple significantly reduce the size of the Face ID sensor. No more information has been released about the slim model that will replace the Plus.

The current report says that the 2025 iPhone series will have such a situation in terms of technical specifications:

  • iPhone 17 and 17 Slim: 8 GB RAM, A18 or A19 chip
  • iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max: 12 GB RAM, A19 Pro chip

Currently, iPhone 15 and 15 Plus use 6 GB of RAM, and 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max use 8 GB of RAM. It is expected that Apple will use 8 GB of RAM in all models of the iPhone 16 series this year.

According to Poe, all iPhone 17 models will use a 24-megapixel front-facing camera, which is a significant improvement over the current 12-megapixel camera.
