A non-governmental startup in cooperation with the local government has provided the necessary grounds to build the world’s first 3D printing school in the city of Lviv, Ukraine.
The NGO TEAM4UA, in cooperation with the regional administration and other companies, uses 3D technology to help people displaced by the war in Ukraine and has implemented a unique proposal that has never been tried in the midst of war.
Advantages of building a 3D printing school
Charles Tine, a member of the TEAM4UA strategy committee, explains that the construction of the school is efficient and will be done very quickly.
Tine is sure that the construction of the first 3D printing school in the world will cause this technology to be used in the country and other parts of the world. He explains:
“We can print bridges and warehouses [after school], and when the war in Ukraine ends, we can move these printers to other places of need, even after an earthquake or other similar disasters.”
According to this startup, installing school walls using a 3D printer is faster and cheaper than concrete construction, which can take up to two years.
According to the country’s Ministry of Defense, “Saving the Schools” is a Ukrainian project in which all damaged and destroyed schools in the country are tracked by collecting images of destroyed buildings and the dates of shelling.
Since the Russian invasion on February 24, more than 2,000 schools in Ukraine have been damaged or destroyed. Also, more than 75,000 of the 250,000 people whose names are registered among the displaced people of Lviv are schoolchildren. Ono Van Manen, the role-playing director of Save the Children Ukraine, says: “Every day that this war passes, the lives and futures of more children are at risk.”
